Community Ice Stations
Since 2009, the Environment Division has run community-placed sea ice monitoring stations in Nain and North West River. The Community Ice Stations track ice thickness and snow depth throughout the sea ice season at weekly intervals. Coupled with weather stations, these stations provide environmental data along important travel routes for communities.
Imappivut is a plan to manage and protect Labrador Inuit interests in the coastal and marine areas of Labrador. Imappivut will work with communities to gather knowledge about areas, uses, and activities that have ecological, social, cultural, and economic importance to Labrador Inuit.
